Participant Rights and Responsibilities

Colab Therapy

At Colab Therapy, we are committed to providing services that respect the rights, dignity and independence of every participant.

Participants are at the centre of everything we do. Our approach is built on collaboration, respect and supporting people to achieve their goals in ways that reflect their values, preferences and choices.

This statement outlines the rights participants have when accessing supports from Colab Therapy, as well as the shared responsibilities that help create safe, respectful and effective working relationships.

Participant Rights

Participants receiving supports from Colab Therapy have the right to:

Person-Centred Supports

Participants have the right to receive supports that:

  • are tailored to their individual needs, goals and preferences
  • respect their identity, experiences and lived expertise
  • support choice, control and meaningful participation in everyday life

Participants are actively involved in decisions about the supports they receive.

Choice, Control and Decision-Making

Participants have the right to:

  • make informed choices about their supports
  • participate in decisions that affect them
  • change providers if they choose
  • be supported to make decisions in ways that suit their communication and understanding

Colab Therapy recognises the importance of self-determination and autonomy in achieving meaningful outcomes.

Respect for Culture, Identity and Beliefs

Participants have the right to supports that respect their:

  • culture and language
  • religion or beliefs
  • gender identity and sexual orientation
  • personal values and life experiences

Colab Therapy is committed to providing services that are inclusive, respectful and culturally safe.

Privacy, Dignity and Confidentiality

Participants have the right to have their privacy respected.

This includes:

  • respectful communication
  • protection of personal information
  • confidentiality of records and discussions
  • being treated with dignity at all times

Independence and Dignity of Risk

Participants have the right to pursue independence and make choices about their lives.

This includes the right to:

  • take reasonable risks
  • try new activities and experiences
  • learn and grow through opportunities

Colab Therapy supports participants to balance independence with safety.

Safety and Freedom from Harm

Participants have the right to receive supports in environments that are safe and free from:

  • violence
  • abuse
  • neglect
  • exploitation
  • discrimination

Colab Therapy has clear safeguarding policies and incident management processes to protect the safety and wellbeing of participants.

Feedback and Complaints

Participants have the right to:

  • provide feedback about services
  • raise concerns or complaints
  • be supported to make a complaint
  • have complaints handled fairly and promptly

Participants will not be disadvantaged for raising concerns.

Participants can also raise concerns with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission if they wish.

Participant Responsibilities

To help ensure services are safe, respectful and effective, participants also have responsibilities when working with Colab Therapy.

Participants are asked to:

  • treat staff and others with respect and courtesy
  • communicate openly about their needs and goals
  • provide accurate information relevant to their supports
  • work collaboratively with therapists and team members
  • notify Colab Therapy if they need to cancel or change appointments
  • maintain safe environments for service delivery

These responsibilities help ensure services can be delivered safely and effectively.
